Location information services

In cooperation with the partners LMT offers its customers, subscribers to ZetCOM and Amigo users a service for which information regarding location of the mobile equipment is used.

What does the word location mean?

Many of us have heard of a letter combination GPS what associates with a map and a point showing the location of the user of GPS equipment. GPS (Global Positioning System) is the most popular satellite navigation system which uses several Satellites for defining of the location of GPS devices. Such Satellites are able to calculate location of the device by transmitting and receiving signals from end equipment. Currently a lot of handsets have built-in GPS functionality, however, not all of them.

GPS is not the only technology that ensures defining of the location of end user; one can do it also in GSM network. LMT has at its disposal the technology enabling to define location of the handset, by using information exchanged between the handset and base stations. That’s possible only if the handset is registered in LMT mobile communications network.

LMT is the first mobile communications operator in Latvia, which has upgraded this technological feature and offers to use it for various services available to customers.

Privacy

The most important issue we have paid attention to is privacy of information regarding location of the customer. Nobody has access to such information, if the customer has not given his or her permission.

Before using the information regarding his or her location, the customer receives a message with such offer. Only in case the customer sends a positive reply, information of his or her location is used, moreover, only for the service which was accepted. LMT has complete control of this process and storing of permissions issued by the customers.

Possibilities

Use of location information of the customers opens extensive possibilities for both LMT customers and businessmen.

Portal www.kurkur.lv gives a possibility to see where your friends are at the moment and receive a message if any of your friends comes close to a certain place (your home or club etc.) The portal www.kurkur.lv offers for parents to get a warning message when their child leaves the school territory and receive a notification message when the child arrives at home.

Companies may use information regarding location of their customers for improving of mutual communication, as well as information on location of its employees for business optimisation of the company.

You may find information regarding any service your location is used for at manaokarte.lv (lv).

Before information on your location is used for any service you will receive a short message from service system number 29319909. At the end of the message some numbers will be added containing information on the service provider and the service your location is used for. If you agree that information on your location is used, send a reply message JA.

If you do not want that information on your location is used for any specific service, send a message STOP to service system number 29319909 and after space indicate name of the service (which you may find in the message with an offer you received when agreed to disclose your location within this service or at manaokarte.lv)

If you do not remember the name of the service, or do not want that information on your location is used for such services, please send a message STOP to service system number 29319909.
